Diary of a Refugee
'Dagboek van een Vluchteling' ('Diary of a Refugee') tells the true story of Yazan, a young Syrian refugee. After war breaks out in Syria, sixteen-year-old Yazan decides to flee to Europe on his own. He wants to escape the war. But this means leaving his family behind. Still, fleeing seems better than being forced to fight for Bashar al-Assad, the president of Syria. Along the way, Yazan is faced with impossible choices, where every option could have fatal consequences. To this day, thousands of people are forced to flee their own countries. They arrive in unfamiliar places where they are often misunderstood, because people do not know what these refugees have been through. 'Dagboek van een Vluchteling' is told from a diary perspective, allowing the audience to experience this journey from beginning to end in an intimate and personal way.
Audience response: “An intense portrait, a performance that has stayed with me… A beautiful narrative voice, wonderful to listen to, and beautiful music, beautifully performed!”
